The Tide In, Tide Out Companion

Return to what remains true

Life does not hold still.

Circumstances change. Emotions rise and recede. Other people make choices we cannot control. At times, it can become difficult to hear our own voice beneath everything moving around us.

Created for readers of Tide In, Tide Out, this AI-guided Companion offers a personal reflective conversation within ChatGPT. It will meet you where you are, ask one question at a time and help you look beneath the changing tide for what remains true.

You do not need to arrive with an answer — or even a clear question. You can begin exactly where you are.

This link opens in ChatGPT. You will need to sign in; a free ChatGPT account can access the Companion, subject to normal usage limits.

Not sure what to say?
When the Companion opens on your phone, tap Ask ChatGPT and write whatever has brought you here. You can describe what is happening in your own words or simply type:

I’m not sure where to begin.

The Companion will guide you from there, one question at a time.

A place to continue the reflection

Reading can offer us a moment of recognition: a sentence that names something we have experienced, a question we cannot immediately answer or an idea that continues to travel with us after the book has closed.

The Tide In, Tide Out Companion gives that moment somewhere to go.

It responds to what you bring, asks one question at a time and helps you read the conditions you are in, listen for your own knowing and recognise what may already be waiting beneath the noise.

It will not tell you what you should feel or what decision you should make. When appropriate, it may offer one possible pathway for you to consider — but you remain the authority on whether that pathway feels true.

When you enter the Companion, you can begin with:

Choose the place that feels closest to where you are today.

Something feels unsettled

There may be a great deal moving around you, even if you cannot yet explain why it feels significant.

I am doubting myself

You may know what you think or feel, but find yourself questioning whether you are allowed to trust it.

I am trying to make a decision

You may be weighing different options, searching for certainty or trying to separate your own voice from everybody else’s.

Something I read stayed with me

A passage, question or realisation from the book may have opened something you would like to explore further.

I’m not sure where to begin

You do not have to identify the problem before you start. Sometimes the first honest step is simply acknowledging that something is asking for your attention.

What the Companion can help you explore

The Companion can help you:

  • name what appears to be changing around you

  • separate what is happening from the meaning you may have attached to it

  • notice when your attention has become anchored in another person’s choices

  • distinguish what belongs to you from what does not

  • reconnect with what you know, value and trust

  • identify one honest step you can take from where you are

There is nothing to complete, achieve or get right. You can stay for one question or continue for as long as the reflection remains useful.

Before you begin

The Tide In, Tide Out Companion is an AI-guided reflective tool hosted in ChatGPT. It may occasionally misunderstand what you mean or offer something that does not fit. You can correct it, reject a suggestion, change direction or stop at any time. You remain the authority on what is true and useful for you.

Please share only what you feel comfortable entering into an online tool.

If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a crisis or need specialist support, please contact an appropriate emergency, medical or support service in your location.

Nina cannot view your individual conversation with the Companion. Your conversation takes place within ChatGPT and is handled according to your ChatGPT plan and Data Controls. Please avoid sharing names, identifying details or anything you would not feel comfortable entering into an online tool.

Returning to the Companion

For easy access later, open the Companion’s menu and select Pin GPT. This keeps the Tide In, Tide Out Companion readily available in ChatGPT, so you won’t need to return through this webpage each time.

Your individual reflections are saved in your ChatGPT history. To continue an earlier conversation, reopen that particular chat from your history.

When reflection needs a human conversation

Sometimes a resource is enough to help us see what we could not see before.

At other times, we need a human conversation – someone who can listen to the whole situation, recognise the threads and help us hear our own voice more clearly.

Centre Point is a private, one-to-one conversation with Nina, created for those moments when you know something needs your attention but are not yet certain what comes next.

There is no obligation to continue into further mentoring. It is a place to understand where you are, what may be pulling you away from yourself and what your next honest step might be.
