Session 10
Understanding My Emotions in a Real Way

Welcome

In the previous session, you began recognising emotions as signals.

Now, we take that one step further.

This session is about understanding emotions in a way that feels real and accessible.

Not by analysing them…

but by learning how to recognise and name them.

Session Overview

Many people find it easy to explain what has happened in a situation, but much harder to recognise what they are actually feeling.

It’s common to stay in the story, overthink the situation, or describe emotions in a very general way.

In this session, we introduce a simpler approach.

Using the Feelings Wheel, you begin to expand your understanding of emotions and develop the ability to recognise what you’re feeling more clearly.

This is not about getting it right.

It’s about becoming more aware.

Key Concepts

Emotions are often more layered than we realise. While we may use broad labels like “angry” or “stressed,” there are usually more specific feelings underneath. Many people stay in the story of what happened rather than recognising what they felt. Developing the ability to name emotions creates awareness, and awareness is the first step toward understanding yourself more clearly.

Reflection Prompts

• How easy is it for me to recognise what I’m feeling?
• Do I tend to stay in the story rather than identify the emotion?
• What emotions feel familiar to me?
• Are there emotions I avoid or struggle to connect with?

This Week’s Decision

This week, notice moments where something feels off.

Rather than focusing on the story, simply ask:

What am I actually feeling here?
